Carol had six sisters and five brothers. She attended the public schools of Hopkins County, KY and Lockyears Business College of Evansville, Indiana. She obtained a job in Chicago, IL where she met and married Kenneth James Kavanaugh in 1927. They had one son Franklin James. Carol died on 2 March 1983 in Warrenton, Virginia at age 85. She was cremated by Lee's Crematory in Washington D.C.
