Peter Cornwell (d. 1776), Brother of Charles Cornwell (d. 1781)
Peter Cornwell, another son of Dennis Cornwell, presumably was born in the 1690s
or early 1700s probably in Prince William or Stafford County, VA.6 He died prior to August
26,1776, in Fauquier County, VA, the date when his will, written on June 2,1776, was presented
for probate. In it he named his beloved wife Sarah Ann, and six children. Records
indicate that Peter was married three times, with the names of his first two wives reported in
Fauquier County, VA, court records. He first married by 1723 to Lucresse (...); second married
by 1732 to Ann (...); third married by 1750 to Sarah Ann BowUng.7 Peter had at least

4 Peter Dunkin, Sr. apparently lived in or near Westmoreland Co., VA. He is discussed in the Genealogy
of Dodson, Lucas, Etc., by S. Emmet Lucas. In addition to Ann Dunkin, Peter Dunkin, Sr. appears
to have had the following children whose identities are shown in 1694 and 1701 Westmoreland
County, VA, records: 1) Elizabeth, wife of George Harrison, 2) Ellen Dunkin (unmarried), 3)
Rebecca, wife of Thomas Kirtley, and 4) Elinor (Dunkin) Bryan, who lived in Charles County, MD,
in 1701.

There is a possibility that "Ann" and "Sarah Ann" were the same person, but more likely not.

1. Simon Cornwell (1740-1810/13) married Mary Johnston and had eleven children:
(1) Francis Cornwell; (2) William B. Cornwell, husband of Mary F. Swan; (3) James
Cornwell; (4) Jeremiah Cornwell, husband of Sarah Burgess; (5) Charles Cornwell, husband
of Elizabeth "Betty" Thornton; (6) Peter Cornwell, husband of Elizabeth
Arterburn; (7) Lewis Cornwell; (8) Patton Cornwell; (9) Elizabeth Cornwell; (10) Sarah
Cornwell; and (11) Ann Cornwell.
2. Jacob Cornwell (1764-1829) married Molly Hayes on September 7,1790, in
Fauquier County, VA, and had thirteen children: (1) Sarah, wife of Jesse Nally; (2) John
Cornwell (died as infant); (3) John Cornwell (II); (4) Jacob Cornwell, husband of Mary
Wolfe; (5) Daniel Cornwell; (6) Elias Cornwell, husband of Susan White; (7) Benjamin
Cornwell, husband of Elizabeth Gore; (8) Mary "Polly" Cornwell; (9) Peter Cornwell;
(10) Joseph Cornwell; (11) Silas Cornwell, husband of Cynthia Bowie; (12) Lucy
Cornwell; and (13) Ann Cornwell, wife of Newton Laws.
