Memorial #: 127360708 Bio: Joseph Shaw was born January 12, 1790 in Guilford County, North Carolina to William Shaw and Sarah Jobe, d/o John Jobe, Sr. and Elizabeth Ruggle, who were married March 10, 1770 in North Carolina. Other children of William and Sarah Jobe Shaw and siblings of Joseph were: Elizabeth; Sarah; Mary; William; Thomas; Nancy; Margaret E. "Peggy" Ann Jane; Hugh; and John Jobe Shaw. Joseph married Rebecca Forbes/Forbis, d/o Jeremiah Forbes/Forbis and Mary Allison, on August 30, 1817 in Guilford County, North Carolina and they had the following known children: Mary Malinda; Sarah Manerva; Nancy Jane; Jeremiah F. Shaw, Sr.; William R. "Billy"; and Joseph Shaw, Jr., who either died or was killed at the battle of Petersburg, Virginia during the Civil War. On September 20, 1839, Joseph Shaw bought the following property: The North West quarter of the North East quarter of Section thirty four in Township fifteen, of Range fourteen West, in the District of lands subject to sale at Tuscaloosa Alabama, containing thirty nine acres and thirty one hundredths of an acre. Certificate #23074 (or 230711), sighed by President Martin Van Buren. On April 1, 1850, he bought the North East Quarter of the North East quarter of Section thirty four(?), in Township Fifteen, of Range Fourteen, West, in the District of Lands subject to sale at Tuscaloosa Alabama containing thirty nine acres and thirty one hundredths of an acre.
