Jacob Aldrich
Birth: 28 Feb 1652 Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA
Death: 22 Oct 1695 (aged 43) Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
Burial: George Aldrich Cemetery, Uxbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
Memorial #: 58219884
Bio:
Jacob was a young boy when his parents moved the family to Mendon, MA. He was a young man when King Philip's War broke out. In 1676, he went with his family back to Braintree as Mendon was no longer safe. Once peace was restored he returned to Mendon.
He was the son of George Aldrich(founder of Mendon) and Katherine Seald Aldrich.
He was his father's youngest son and inexplicably was made sole heir to his father's estate after the death of his father George's widow. There is no evidence that Jacob had a house lot of his own so it seems likely that he remained at home with his father and for that reason was made sole heir.
He married Huldah Thayer on 11/2/1675 in Milford in the county of Worcester, MA. She was the daughter of Ferdinando Thayer and Huldah Hayward Thayer. Huldah Thayer Aldrich died some time after the 1707 settlement of Jacob's estate.
Children: Jacob Aldrich Jr, Abel Aldrich, Seth Aldrich, Huldah Aldrich Wilkinson, Rachel Aldrich, Sarah Aldrich Thompson, David Aldrich, Peter Aldrich, John Aldrich, Moses Aldrich, Mercy Aldrich, and Rachel Aldrich Thayer.
Jacob was a prominent man in town affairs as was his father before him. In 1694 he was assessor. At the time of his death at age 43, he was listed as a husbandman (farmer). Jacob was made overseer of his father George's will in which his father left him all his lands after the decease of Katherine, his mother.
He left no will. The settlement of his estate was probated in Boston, Suffolk, MA. They found it difficult to divide the several portions of his estate and finally sold it by order of the probate Judge in 1707 to his eldest son Jacob for the sum of £183 to pay his brothers and sisters ( saving the rights of their mother, Huldah ) . Jacob was to pay Abel, Seth, David, Peter, John, Moses, Huldah wife of Samuel Wilkinson, Sarah and Rachel £6, 1 shilling, 2½ pence one year hence with an interest "in interim of 6%." Upon the death of their mother, they were all to get a further sum of £3, 7½ pence.
